Modern Living – 5 of the Latest Home Décor Trends

Interior design trends are inspired by different areas of fashion, and the items that are worn on the runway are the same ones that can be found in the fashionistas living rooms. Bringing your house up-to-date with a touch of the latest trends doesn’t have to be hard, or extremely expensive. Simple changes and mixing and matching ideas can help to achieve this. 5 easy trends that can be used in any room of the house are:

1. Scandinavian Inspired Décor
The Scandinavians believe that, when it comes to decorating a room, less is more. Walls are painted in light, neutral colours such as whites and creams, and lots of wood is used to add appeal. As a very eco-friendly trend, decorative items are simple and dual purpose furniture is used, for example, a sofa that can be folded out into a bed.

2. Grey
Many people are under the misconception that grey is a drab colour. An entire room in a single shade of this colour can be a bit dull, but when mixed with more vibrant décor and used creatively it helps to make a room look and feel very comfortable. Painting a room in grey and a contrasting colour follows well with the trend. Gunmetal is used as a more subtle version of black and matches everything, creating a uniformed effect regardless of which room it is in.

3. Woven Wall Hangings
Everything old is new again, as the resurrection of woven wall hangings proves. The best thing about most of these pieces is that they are one-of-a-kind and can be found in thrift stores, Etsy and EBay.

4. Boho/Artisan Décor
This trend is based on tribal designs, and bright colours and ethnic patterns dominate. Many of the decorations are inspired by items that come from Turkey and Morocco.

5. Wallpaper
After many years of not being very popular, the use of wallpaper has made a comeback and the patterns are bolder and brighter than ever. Metallic colours, silver, gold and copper, are currently favourites and can be used in small spaces to bring attention to a detail of the room, as well as in larger spaces when the household is particularly daring.
